Todd Wood, SVP of industrial design at RIM, says that upcoming designs will be “charming, whimsical, and fun.” Wood explains that his design team headed to different locations around the world to draw inspiration for phone design — the BlackBerry Bold 9900 was inspired by the Bellagio in Italy, and the team headed to Malmo, Sweden for their latest workshop.

Every time I heard someone send their design team and get inspired by a foreign city or some famous artwork, that’s a sign for mediocre designers running out of ideas or have no idea how to bullish what “inspired” their design that is a mix of random ideas.

Just look at that logo at the bottom, it’s way too big and out of proportion. I know this is a just a prototype, and I am sure it was leaked intentionally. But a phone is not a car, it’s logo doesn’t need to be like the VW emblem which has been getting bigger and bigger in the last 10 years.
